G/f and i have been thinking about doing it. Just not too sure about the ups and downs on it. has anybody done it, and if so what has been your experience

Around here when they auction off a storage unit they open the door and let you look in but that's it. And it has become a big thing here for people to do this. You could pick up a storage unit for a $100 but now sometimes around a $1000. It must pay good sometimes but I'm betting on you get your plain old junk to. They typically sell the stuff at yard sales or flea markets. I bought a complete 318 with forged pistons, 340 steel crank, with edelbrock intake, from pullies to trans, all for $60 from a guy who buys storage units. Just make sure you have a truck to haul the stuff around or dump it. And expect to find some weird crap, let alone personal belongings. It can be quite a money maker.

There are some good deals and some not so good.It is basically CHANCE! Bid and win and take a CHANCE! I know people that do it and they sell items on EBAY,and craigs list. His wife has a resale shop and they do pretty good from what he tells me. I know he wound up buying contents of one storage unit that had a Corvair Spyder in it and it was a REAL NICE car,was even turbo charged. He wound up selling it to a Corvair Collector for $8000.00 and he only paid $450.00 for the contents of the unit. I have bought a few guns from him and some car parts. He also has a few auctions locally he sells things at.

Yeah I am sure we will get some junk, but hey that's what ebays for right. A friend of mine bought on and got all kinds of tool, tool boxes I think it got it for around a $100. So i will problably go down this coming friday and check one out that is going up fopr auction.
