Installed the new 489 unit and the ujoints were different so I bought the conversion one plus new strps and bolt (hardened)
Well first blast down the highway hard and Bam broke the 4 bolts clean in the yoke !!
Okay all that is no biggie to fix,
but.........
The drive shaft must have been kicking around real hard and now is stuck in the tranny !!!
Tried everything to pull it out,Must have crossed up some splines..... Anybody get one stuck and GET it out ??
Most likely the tail shaft is a gonner !

Tim I haven't ever had a yoke get stuck but just thought I'd add to checke that tranny front to back with a magnifying glass to look for any cracks. I once lost a driveshaft like you did and it put cracks all over the trans. main case. I was a dumb 17 year old kid and tried to drive it anyway and it made it about 5 easy miles before the case split in several pieces.

First wire up the back end of the drive shaft so all that weight isn't hanging off the tranny spline then get a friend so that there is one person on each side of the tranny. Cut 2, 1 foot lengths of 2x4 and each of you pound on the yoke ears at the same time with the biggest hammer you can swing on the ends of the 2x4's.

If there is even the remotest possibility that you overspeed the tranny then it needs to be removed and disassembled to check for damage to the drum and sprag along with cracks and other nasties.

I'm also curious how the hell you were able to break all 4 hardened yoke bolts. How much HP are ya running? Are you sure that the u joint cups were properly seated in the yoke housings and what torque did ya torque the bolts to. Is there a chance you were using the small cup u joint in the yoke housing met for the large cup u joint and therefore they were loose. I've never seen the bolts snapped off when everything is correct even with a hard launching car, I have seen broken u joints and twisted off pinion gear shafts just never snapped off bolts. Never say never.

Terry,
I have well over 800 HP on the DYNO !!

Yes the u joint was in right and was the right one,It looks as though it might have split,Has a big crack going threw it, could be from swinging around but would explain why it broke loose..

Tried the wood and BIG hammer ,nothing... Looks like the trans comes out. needs to be checked out anyway, while it's out might as well upgrade it also so next year thats not a worry..

Never say never has been happening allot to me lately on this car !! LOL
