Stupid 8 3/4 suregrip question

I am thinking about looking at a set of wheels that has an 8 3/4 with sg in it and 291 gears. I've never heard of 291's, also how can I tell its suregrip?? Its in the vehicle, so I cant see the inside. How does it go again with jacking the arse end up.... you spin one tire and the other tire spins the same way?? Thanks for any input.

Yes both tires should turn the same way. 291 would be a highway gear (but i dont remember it as a stock gear (maybe 294?))

if you spin one wheel forward and the other side goes backward with no resistance it is an open rear (no suregrip, no locker, no spool)

Thanks for the info guys, yeah I have heard of 294's as well, but never 291. Are 294's stock??

I just picked up a 8 3/4 for my 70 b-body and it still has the 294 tag on it. so i'll say yes factory gear.
