Sure grip and rear end question

so if you have a rear end with the third member installed and axles in, how can you tell if it’s a sure grip without removing the third member?
 
Turn the wheel on one side forward, if the other spins backwards its not a sure grip or a posi from a non mopar manufacturer

Should be able to jack it up and spin the rear tires by hand. If they turn the same way its sure grip, If they spin opposit its not
 
That only works on 1965 and up 8.75s.1957-1964 don’t have the beveled clutches to set preload on them,so they act like an open when spinning when up on jack stands. Kim
