Just got my Dana Spicer 75101X Trac Lok the other day, and I noticed the bolt that holds the cross pin in place had a 12 point head that seemed considerably smaller than the 6 point 5/16 bolt in my open carrier. I wanted to swap them out, but soon found out I couldn't. Seems as if the new Trac Lok bolt is 6x1.25, and the open carrier is, as I said, 5/16 coarse.

Even the cross pins themselves are different sizes, again with the Trac Lok being smaller in diameter.

I'm not too concerned with the size difference. The only reason I wanted to replace the 12 point bolt with a 6 point is because I feel better about breaking it loose if I have to get in there for any reason in the future.

Anyone else have this experience? To be clear, it is a genuine Spicer part.

I did not take pictures of the cross pins, but I remember the open carrier pin being 0.8" and the Trac Lok was around 0.716.

As long as the hole in the pin matches the pin I’d send it.

Oh, I'm going to. Just wondering why the hell they'd be so different is all

Some bean counting fruit cake looked at the size of the pin and said I can make it smaller and save 3 cents and I can make the hole smaller in the pin and that means smaller drill bits and that saves money.

It’s a money thang. Which is exactly what I tell my wife.

Sakes mense to me. I never consider the manufacturing costs; rather, parts interchangeability.
