Working with a 8.75 in a `68 dart, it has a 489 case, I have an opportunity to pick up the 355 gears and suregrip unit for the 489 case for $75 from an older gentleman cleaning out his garage, he bought and never used, what to look for, cracking around bolts, off tooth wear, what else....? Rick

what type of sure grip, Clutch or cone ? Either way if the gears and clean. No chips it sounds like a good deal.

make sure that the gears are for a 489 case. If so they will have a tapered area on the pinion gear.

yeah it seems like a great deal if everything is useable the sure grip unit alone is 599.95 new from summit and the gears are probably another 200 or so at 75 bucks you cant go wrong you can always get your money back and then some. Justin

He used to work for the local dodge dealership as a mech, about 20 some odd years, retired in the mid 80`s, he used to buy all the old trade ins, anything performance mined, he has lots of pics of hemi runners, superbees, GTS that he aquired over the years. some local strip action of the cars he had bought, now he`s just cleaning out whats left. The suregrip is a clutch unit, he had said it was for a 489 case, its all wrapped in heavy plastic bag, its a done deal today.
