We built the 70 Dart Custom to have some fun with.
took it to the track, 340, /727, 3.55, 205-70-14,

The Monte thought it was funny, said he will blow our doors off, I said fine, why do you think we bought 2 extra (4 door)

So, NOW, the fun begins, until we can get it tubbed and 15" wheels, we put some shaved 245-60-14 (7" wheel) on for now.

we are building a 449
4.250 stroke, flat top pistons from BPE
Airwolf heads
Comp mech roller RX296S-R6
Air Gap / E-85 950 carb
super comp headers, flow masters/ 2 /1/2 pipe
4200 PTC converter

Any thoughts, on this build?

We can change,
as of now only have the
Short block
exhaust and intake
for this project

Thanks
Howard and Gayle

Yeah...

I've never seen a monte carlo of any body style except the 77-81, do any good at the strip.

10.95 lol Monte 7.84

all stock, low comp, stock converter,
was just stuff, we had laying around, to get it rolling (street class)

spinning- then sppinning in second, had to off/ back on, just before the 330

i used to chase down a monte every wed nite.was running 13.60s i was 12 40s last time isaw him this year he's running 11.00s

I have.:burnout:

Me too. Got a buddy with a 540 inch 72 Monte that runs high 10's in full street trim and is very streetable. Considering how much cheaper it is to build a Chevy it's no wonder.

As for the OP's question. If the heads are prepped right and it's tuned right and hooks up it should easily send the Monte packing even through the muffs, but I'd go with 3" exhaust. IMHO 2-1/2" is too small at that power level.

Should be a nice light front end, even if it's not too aerodynamic. But who needs aerodynamics when you've got 540 cubes of BBM power, LOL :headbang:

yea, it looks like a BIG brick, thats what makes it fun

This race was at the Nashville Super Speedway ( pit road set up)
not the best for traction, so we backed the timing down alittle

I didn't know they ever drag raced at the Nashville Motor Speedway. Was that a one time event? If not when is the next one?

they did it one year 2008
to see if people would come
What is really crazy is
they have the site prep for a drag strip, and dirt track
but, have failed to finish them

We live 13 miles from there, so was really hoping, they would finish the work they started.
That's the reason, we, converted the car hauler to diesel ,
so that we could travel to other race tracks.

8 mpg pulling 2 cars was killing us on gas

first time

got the other pieces today,, had to do a"test" fit :blob:

time to git to work,
YES,the rollers are in backwards (got alittle block grinding to do.)
Heads,will get ported/intake matched

By the time the engine,is finished,
the torque converter will be here (4200)

E85 carb should show up soon..

the W-2 headers, should be here monday.

then looks like tubbin time
15 x 10 rally/ 275 ET Pro :burnout:

waiting on a few more parts for the stroker
right now just a pile of boxes

Been raining, So Gayle and I had time to pull the 73 low comp small cam 340
for something a little better

A fresh build 68 340

early high comp .030 over pistons
2.02 "J" heads
XE268H Comp cam with adjustable roller rockers
rotating assembly lighten/Balanced
full time oiling to rods/mains and top end

while the engine is out
time for a trans safety shield and 3200 converter/SFI flex plate

Mark Sullens E-85 carb (950)

since the block has been decked a few time over the years
the pistons stick .032" out of the block (stock was .010"-.012")
checked clearances/clayed up the head/valves ( still got .060" to the head)
ain't nuttin hittin, so gonna run it...

I'd go with a Victor 340 or M-1 single plane. That AirGap will choke those heads. I'd also go 3" exh for the same reason. Other than that I dig it. :burnout:

Since may 8, have been trying to get Airwolf heads

So, we bought the Indy w-2 with a "R" intake

Exhaust is now W-2
3 1/2" collector

Dang, more rain
The garden needed it anyway
Gayle says it only rained cause she washed the Caliber, truck and Dart yesterday

So, we loaded up the Dart with the 68 model 340 and the rain start

But, it still turned out to be a good day

got the pistons and rings yesterday (for the stroker),So, I can finish file fitting them, send the crank piston, rod out for balance

Byrce at Dr. "J's" performance called, gave me a tracking # for the Airwolf heads

and a pair of Quarter panels arrive, for our other 70 Dart (2 door) >>lol

007-1.jpg

checked the pistons for correct deck height

pulled it apart for one last time i hope, to send the crank, piston, rod out for balance

( the pistons/rods are already weight matched from the supplier)

going to do a final wash/wrap the block, get ready to build when the crank returns

tracking # says Air wolf heads will be here, Tuesday
good timing, give us time to check them out/prep them for this stroker
Indy heads, we are still porting for the other stroker, also sent the headers back for a tube adjustment
(fit the car)

hello,hello >> piston down 4.250"

final assemble today

waiting on correct length push rods, and mill the intake to fit

looks like we will get it finished
just in time for our local track to close for the season

lol
