I have a 1983 904 trans (999) with speedo gear housing in picture. I'm needing to swap out to an early style to fit my 7/8" speedo cable. The units I'm looking at have 26-45 on them. Does this mean you can run a 26 to 45 tooth gear with them? The gear that came out of my trans was a 27, According to the charts I'm needing a 33 tooth for my tire size/rear gear ratio. Do these 2 housings interchange? and when you install do you just insert and turn clockwise until the gear meshes with the gear on the output shaft...Hope that makes sense.
