Symptoms of a bad coil?

Been trying to diagnose some issues and thought maybe it would be good info to post for others searching.

Not going into my problems in this thread since I have listed them in another thread.

Just hoping to come up with a good reference on the subject.

I had an oil filled one mounted horizontally on an aluminum intake. It got real hot and would miss at idle. Mounted an epoxy filled one horizontally on the fender and problem solved.
