Well after looking at the instructions for my new tach I didn't like the idea of drilling holes into my newly painted dash. I did a little search here on FABO and found a few ideas and pictures. This is what I came up with and it beats paying $60. This was from some left over scrap sheetmetal. It came out pretty good. This is the rough bracket. This design may work better for the later a-bodies and such. It seems pretty stiff since I have the flat metal piece as far as it will go into the dash pad.

This is the view where I think it stick out too far. I believe I will modify it some.

Hope you guys enjoy this one. It was really too easy. :salute:

Hey Dave,
I actually made a similar bracket for the 70,but wanted to keep the sleeper look so I moved it elseware.

Not sure if he was the first but Mr.Norm was making these for his cars.
Definately the way to go if you want the tach on top of the dash.

Cool stuff !!!!!!!

I thought about slipping it below the dash pad but it may get in the way of the ashtray and the cigarette lighter. I don't use either one though. I going to fab up another one just to see how it looks. Didn't know that about Mr. Norm. Cool. I got the idea from some pictures on here.

I took your "sleeper" advice and modified the bracket to fit under the dash pad. Looks 100% better and looks very clean. I can still reach the cig lighter and the ashtray with no problem. The wires for the tach actually thread right behind the dash cluster. It is actually very stiff as well and should not bounce around too much. If I have problems with it being flimsy I'll temper the metal. Thanks again for the tip.

Looks good. I made a bracket just like that for my Barracuda.

Doh... :blackeye: Will get some up tonight. I put a fresh coat of paint on the bracket before I took pictures :blackeye:

Another thing you can do, if you want the tach on top of the dash, is mount
the stock bracket, with 3-M double sided trim tape. Mines been on top for 3 years now, and it holds steady. Then you're not drilling holes in your dash, or pad, and it can be removed real easy, the tape residue is not hard to get off.

Here ya go Johnny,
The lighting was bad since it was almost dark when I got home. Under the dashpad pics on the spare parts car. Looks better this way I think.
