UPDATE: I just finished some research on this swap and have decided that I will most likely stay with the 71 tail panel- just too much money and trouble to switch back. With the tail panel shadow stripes, the two lights do not look that much different.
I am in the process of buying a '72 had the tail panel replaced with a 71- the owner said he could not find a 72 when this repair was done 12 yrs ago. I prefer the 72 lights and wondered if it was possible to enlarge the holes on the 71 panel to fit the 72 lights? I'm not too concerned if the distance between the lights is perfectly matched to what they were in 72. I understand it may be easier to replace the entire panel, but if the lights could be fitted I'd rather go that route.
