Tale of two 72' Demons

Well I picked up the second 72' 340 column shift Demon on the weekend and I am pretty impressed. It came as a shell and box car but has been stored inside for over a decade, no rear end, or drive train or fender tag. but I was going after some better sheet metal.For a $1000 I think it was worth it. A bonus was the mint shape interior buckets, rear bench seat and a 71' trunk lid with cutouts for a wing if I wanted to paint both and swap them out.

Looks like I missed the passenger rear quarter but that one is completely rust free. I should be able to get away with a lower patch on the drivers side. Planning to work on the rotisserie this week and get it off to blast once that is done I'll have a better idea where I'm at.

Its a shame someone cut holes in the front inner fenders at one point for a big block. Not as bad as that hole in the roof of Demon #1 though for the sunroof. I should be able to make good inners between both cars.

Once its blasted I'll take more pics and prime it and be on my way! wish me luck.:cheers:

I gotta admit the body style has sure grown on me since I picked the first one up. Its a shame that one has to be a donor, but better that than a block of scrap I guess. Its a match made in Fort Saskatchewan! lol.
 
Hi all, Sorry for the big delay on the project, Lots has happened in my life in the past 6 months so I'll keep it short but sweet.

I moved and changed jobs which totally set me back on the restoration but with more land and a bigger shop I'll be getting going on it very soon!

I also located a 340 block and had a stroker built out of it in the past six months. Due to the overtime I've been working I had the whole thing farmed out to a reputable engine builder. They did a fantastic job for me and I'm very excited and motivated to get going on the body now that the engine is complete. In the Dyno it made 473Hp with 513tq at 4500 rpms.

I can get specs for anyone interested but off the top of my head I can tell you that it is a .030 over 72' 340 block, Milodon deep sump oil pan with Melling high vol oil pump, It has a completely forged bottom end stroker assembly with 9.75:1 compression, Roller Cam,Lifters and 1.6 roller rockers, Eddy heads, RPM intake, and a 750 quickfuel carb with a one inch spacer. Thats it in a nut shell.

I'll be getting the car on the rotisserrie in the next few weeks and as I progress I'll update this blog.

Congrats on the new job and that motor! good to hear you will be starting on the car...which one are you going to use? the orange one was the donor one right?
 
Thanks, and yes the orange one will be the donor. The new job is 4-10's which will allow me to have a little more "me" time lol, still have to divide it up with the wife and kids though. I spent the money I was going to have the car blasted with on a 60 gal 3 cylinder compressor and picked up a pressure blaster from harbor freight. I think I'll strip the easy stuff with a DA sander and do the hard to reach areas with the media blaster. Whats a good grit for stripping old paint? I was thinking 80-100?

I have a few mods to do on the rotisserrie and once its on I'll post some pics. Its minus 20c here in Alberta now so the blasting will have to wait till the spring if I'm going to do it but I can do all the sanding in the mean time and probably work on the minitubs.

I never did make it down to see your Demon. Looking forward to it though. Now I'm up in Athabasca County which is a little further away but if you are ever in the neighbourhood drop by and check out the place. I'm on 12.5 acres, with a 28X26.5 detached garage wired with 220 which will work out perfectly for the project. Just getting it organized now and only got the Demon up here last week, It was a busy few months with trying to sell the house and find a new one. No excuses now lol.:burnout:

I hear ya on the Chilly Bro! We are about the same here. Hard to get out and get going in the shop this time of year. I'm using propane and a 125K BTU heater with a 100lb tank to warm it up until I can get gas plumbed sometime in the spring/summer. It will happen eventually. I did however unpack a bunch of tools and got the bench and compressor setup. Should have the rotisserie up to snuff on the weekend. Got to get that gantry crane set up as well. Only 4 bolts for that so it won't be long now! Some of the welding on the rotiserrie looked pretty sketchey though so I may have to go over them and fine tune it as well as weld on those spring bolts for a safety stop incase one of the cylinders leaks down on me. Safety first! lol.
 
So I have most of my stuff unpacked, I had to make an executive decision and set up the compressor in the main shop until it warms up and I can figure out where in the bunkhouse it would fit best. At least this way I can get going on the car. I do have a few mods on the rotisserie which I'll post pics for anyone interested, Its a homade one that I borrowed that needs a few minor adjustments and should be bolting it up soon. With that said I'll throw a few more pics up of the shop and how I'm setting it up for the project. Any tips/advice or comments are welcome.:cheers:

Thanks, me and the wife got what we wanted with this place. Last one had an attached garage which would have worked but a little more freedom with this place and I can make more noise with no neighbors lol. I like your 71' Demon by the way.
