Teen taking Lamborghini test drive dies in crash

-
18 years old is way too young to die, regardless of the circumstances. RIP

On a second note, I bet the owner is out 200K of insurance money, because 18 yr old was not on the insurance policy of that car.

again i'd like to put in my plug about "corner carving" / handling all that "modern suspension" BS

lots of people believe in all that marketing crap, you never can anticipate what lies ahead on public streets. i dont care if you have bouncemaster 3000 shocks and 2 inch swaybars 12 inch wide tires etc. you cant' take every corner at high speed and expect to get away with it over and over.

here's another from yesterday: 6 kids dead. driving on "modern suspension" apparently isnt the answer to everything

"A teenager taking a friend’s Lamborghini out for a spin was killed when he slammed into a guard rail while going too fast, police said.

Samuel Shepard, 18, died Friday on Long Island in New York after wrecking the powerful sports car.

Its owner, who was a passenger on the ride, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The accident turned the $200,000-plus car into a mangled piece of wreckage.

Police said excessive speed was a likely cause of the crash."

Oh, this is ripe.
Can one slam into a guard rail too slowly then?
Speed caused the crash?
Or was it lack of driving abilities and good judgment?
Cops can't say that. Have to blame "speed".
I'm also guessing that it wasn't going fast that killed him.
It was the sudden stop.

My soap box is that modern cars insulate poor drivers (which most people seem to be) too much from road feel. People don't realize how fast they are going.
My father always talked about how much more time and energy it takes to stop a car when doing 80 MPH than when doing 55,
Of course, we always had to ride the brakes to dry out the front drums after going though water puddles too.

I agree. When I drive my dart at 65 I feel like I am really cooking. I hop in my mustang and 65 feels like 25. This driver probably wasn't even looking at his speed.

That doesn't mean I think people who are great drivers should be able to fly around on public roads. There is just too many suprises on roads. My friend raced motorcycles for ten years before he died going 110 on his bike.

I still do speed fairly often but it's never anything close to 100 on public roads for this guy.
