Well, I’m not sure but this might be another one of those engine stories.
I stopped for gas late at night on the way home from work.
Nice fellow smiles and eyes the Dart Sport. He comes over to talk.
First question as usual is does it have a slant six in it.
Nope. Got a cop 318. I tell him that I cut up a Diplomat and put the engine, lock up transmission and rear in this car and I get 20-23 mpg highway. I got rid of the electric QJet and am running a re-jetted junk yard one. It’s been to Seattle and back. (And a lot of other places too).
It's got legs on the top end.
I would get even better milage if I had time to put headers and duals on it.

He is like wow. People just don’t appreciate the older cars.

He tells me about a 66 Barracuda and I told about the good deal I passed up on a 65 last year.
Just making conversation.

So this is where it gets odd for me. (Things get odd when money is mentioned, I guess)

I may have missed something about MOPAR Engines (really) but the abbreviated conversation went sort of like this:
He: “ Years ago, I had a 440 Chrysler Semi-Hemi and sold it. It was worth 5 grand just sitting on the floor. They only made a few of them. Very rare engine.
Me: “ I’m not familiar with that engine. Every 440 I’ve heard of is a wedge engine. Are you thinking about the six-pac engines?”
He: “ No, this was a semi-hemi"
Me. “ Are you thinking of the 318 Pol spherical? It was a big block and the way to tell the difference is the valve cover bolts. Or maybe you are thinking of the Max-Wedge engines. They are rare.”
He. “ No this was a semi-hemi. It only had room for the valve to be in the Bla, Bla, Bla configuration. (I’m not paying much attention now and the talk is drifting to E-bodies and big blocks.)
Me. “Nope. Can’t say that I’m familiar with it. Anyway if you had a 440 car could you afford to drive now? Gas is going to get worse they say. I mean what would you do with it?”
He:” Well……….”
Me: “ I’m not driving my Dodge because of the money anyway. I just think it’s a good car. See ya later”.

That’s the kind of fun you just can’t have driving a Honda.

Addendum.
Last night I was tooling along at 60 MPH on the interstate to save gas in the same car. Just thinking what a good car this is.
I look over my left shoulder and a 69 SS Cumareo (sic) was hovering beside me
I didn’t even make eye contact. Just turn back around.
He guns his rat motor and moves ahead like he wants to race.
I let him go on
What a moron.
Can't have that kind of fun in a Honda.

440 semihemi, if i realy had had one of those and let it go i would feel so stupid i wouldnt tell anyone afterwards, ever heard about the ballstud hemi?
its kind of a 440 with something looking like bigblock chevy heads on it and yeah those where real.... and i think thats what he was talking abou...

yep another winner!

I have mostly heard Ford guys, Chevy guys mostly rattle of stuff that was never made, talk to a guy with a 346 hemi mustang 2 weeks ago. Said it ran 11's stock back in 68. But dam I think I have met people that either owner a real hemi, or brother had one, wifes brother etc.. than Mopar ever made...

You just gotta smile and walk away... :happy10:

Most Mopar guys are pretty straight up I find, but I have seen a few flakes there too over the past 40 years.. I have been around cars.
