The last time I applied with the USFS was 18 years ago, and despite submitting at least a dozen applications, not one reply. It felt like my applications were going straight into the garbage. I considered myself a good applicant with solid work history, no criminal history, etc. So I don't know if things have changed, but my experience with trying to get hired was one that left me feeling it was virtually impossible to get my foot in the door unless I knew someone.
