Most the fastest boats used Rolls. As you probably know, there were several variants IE Merlin, the "biggest" being the Griffons as I understand it.

The demise of the old engines is why I'm not particularly interested anymore. I find no thrill in listening to Kirby vacuums go by

Incidently, around 69--70 Pay 'n Pak tried to race with a pair of Keith Black 426 hemis, but later went to a Rolls Merlin

I used to be a big fan of the Alisons in the tractor pulls. But now you hardly ever see them. Although they rarely won they were something different and cool.

I think part of the reason they have disappeared is that WWII warbirds have simply become too worthwhile. There are quite a few that use Allison / Rolls power

Don't forget the "Chrysler Crew" that ran for a couple of years with dual Hemis. They even won one event in Tri-cities, WA.

I had intended to mention them. I think I got sidetracked looking for photos of the boat. Unfortunately, some of this stuff is not around. my knuckles weren't white enough last night. I had to watch it again this morning!!

That was some crazy fast and dangerous racing . Out of control. I was sure it wouldn't have a good outcome. Whew!!
Seems all the many kinds of racing from the early 60s to the middle 70s brought a whole different level of risk than the watered down stuff today.

You know, Eddie Hill got OUT of hydroplane racing and INTO Top Fuel because he said it was safer. lol
