I need a new battery for the race car.
I was thinking of buying a Deep Cycle> Marine battery.
Is that a good option?

I do run an alternator, and 2 electric fans, electric fuel pump.

I used to use one with out an alternator and never had an issue. Just charged between rounds and hot-lapping to the final round was never a problem:)

Back before wife, I always put marine RV deep cycle batteries in the 71 Swinger 340.
They don't have as much surface area, so cannot deliver as many cranking amps.
The plates are thicker to be able to deliver power over a long period.
If you are not driving it in winter and it's not hard to start when hot, you should be fine.
If you can fit a group 27 battery in there, do it. These rely on the lead plates being "spongy" to provide deep discharge.
After discharge, it is urgent to charge them again more or less immediately.
Otherwise sulfation begins to block the open porous nature of the plates, reducing surface area and ability to deliver cranking amps. That said, they resist sulfation better than cheaper batteries, particularly maintainance free batteries, which die very quickly if not recharged rightaway.
