Reading the "stroke a 273?" thread.
In the mid 70's towards the end of it's "life" I had a couple of lean years, and was putting a 340 into the old Landcruiser. The Landcruiser had had a 360 in it, and I needed something "to get me by" to drive. A friend "had a 318". "You want it, 50 bucks. I think it runs"
So we go out there, and hanging above a SIXTY FIVE B body is this TWO SEVENTY THREE!!! two barrel.
Never the less, I dumped it right into the RR body, didn't even put the mufflers on the SB headers to test it. No hood, either. We fired it up, and warmed it up. Oil. Smoke. Whaddaya WANT for 50 bucks. Hell, it's not even 'hittin' on all 8. So we take a little run out the "Dover highway." By the time we got back 15 minutes later, 'most' of the smoke had cleared, and we had.........8 cylinders!!!!
So later, my lunatic friend, "Herbie" had this EXPENSIVE 250 Chev six. It had an A-833 behind it. It had a Clifford / Holley 4bbl intake. Headers. cam. Aluminum FINNED!!! valve cover. He had HUNDREDS of bucks into this engine, in a 50s GMC pickup.
So "we" are goin somewhere, followin Herbie, and Herbie decides he's gonna leave us in the "dirt." THE 50 DOLLAR 273 KICKED HIS ***!!!! And no, by the way, he's never lived that down!!
