I am currently in the process of putting a new carb on the stock 318 and am trying to figure out what kind of tuning im going to have to do as far as timing advance and such things go. Its a summit street strip 600 cfm carburetor with edelbrok square/spread bore intake on the stock block from 71 318

Thanks in advnace

If the timing was "good" to start with, the carb won't affect it, except that the characteristics of the throttle/ "ported vacuum" for the vacuum advance may and probably will be different than the original. Whether it's enough different to warrant any worry will simply require some experimentation.

What I mean by that is that the vacuum port may "come in" earlier or later, and may generate more or less vacuum at a certain throttle setting than the original carb. This of course will cause more/ less vacuum advance. It just might not matter much.

leave the timing alone if it was right, make sure you hook the vac adv. hose to ported vac. you'll be good
