These Mopar Performance 402 c.i.d. Magnum crate engines are "square" in engineering terms, meaning that they have identical 4.00 in. bore and stroke dimensions. However, with 435 hp on tap, no one is ever going to accuse them of being boring. Pair one up with your ride, and you'll get a barrel full of excitement. They're built with high quality parts, featuring Magnum R/T cylinder heads with big stainless steel valves (2.02 in. intakes, 1.625 in. exhausts), heavy-duty valve springs, and a surprisingly civilized 9.0:1 compression ratio. The intake is a tall, single-plane, single 4-barrel M1 type. It has paired runners separated from each other and the base of the manifold by large air gaps intended to deliver a cooler, denser air-fuel charge. The manifold also has molded-in bosses to allow conversion to fuel injection, including MPI components. (However, these engines are not recommended for use with the stock, factory MPI system itself.) The camshaft is a hydraulic roller type, with a 0.501 in. intake lift and a 0.513 in. exhaust lift. Intake duration is 288 degrees; exhaust, 292 degrees. The engines come with a Mopar electronic ignition and distributor, a center-sump oil pan (similar to a Commando engine), Mopar cast-aluminum valve covers, and a double-row roller timing set. They're not for use with air conditioning, and the manifold is taller than stock, so check hood clearance.
I was wanting to find out the best timing everyone seems to like ?
Also thinking of porting my heads or best heads that will wake her up

Are you serious i know a guy that has one of those "piece of ****" has been apart several times..and never ran great from the start..i would NEVER buy anyones crate motor:violent1::violent1:

Gezz, your just the guy I was going to recommend on contacting for suggestions on his questions. Seeing you do race your stroker right?

To the OP, the Magnum R/T heads (and the LA replacement head which is the same head just drilled for LA intakes) are very good heads and will port out well. Hughes engines reported 300 & IIRC a little more from out of these heads. There not W2 level heads but run a close second.

Since you were looking for another possible head to port, that would be the Edelbrock Magnum head. A camshaft change to take advantage of the heads air flowing capacity would be next or at the same time along with the head porting.

Timing wise, try 20* initial, 32* @ 2000, 52* with vacuum advanced hose hooked up.

68Fastback402, do you have one, or are you thinking of buying one? P5153474 is no longer available. Unless someone just happens to have an old one in stock.

BTW, I know of more people that have had great results with "crate engines" than have had bad experiences.

No i race a "stock stroke" 360..when i did race the stroker i laughed at those "crate motors":D:D:D..still do with the 360:D:D:D

Now back to the original question i too recommend the Edelbrocks..timing seems to be a thing of preference i run mine at 36 degrees total

I was running a 360/380hp crate motor and it ran pretty good. I ran a best of 7.27 @ 95mph in the 1/8 at 2950 lbs. I ran the timing at 35*. Still have the motor I just upgraded to a 3.79 stroke 340.

Ohhhh, I thought you raced the stroker! OK cool. PM me some details!
