Are timing gears worth the extra cost on a 440, roughly 500 hp(goal)

Meaning what, you talking about "gear drive?" as opposed to "chain drive?" Those are sprockets, just to clear the air.

Be ready for a constant whining noise, like louder than most superchargers lol. A friend of mine had a set of gear drive timing gears on his 440 and I could hear him a mile away (for real).

Yeah I think I'll stay away then. Thanks

you can get pete Jackson in a quiet mode. I had the loud one and they were loud. I have a Donovan now in the hotrod and I can't hear it with the blower belt. in the tow truck I have one made be some other company and it very quiet, at least I only hear it faintly driving the truck. now if you are after perfect timing they are the cats butt. there is nothing that keeps timing correct forever like a gear drive. I would never ever use a chain again on any motor I build.

I bought the Summit Racing $44 timing set for my 383 - it's made by Trickflow and has a 9 way adjustable billet crank gear and steel upper, double roller chain, and single bolt on the cam gear very nice chain set for the price

IMO no, Nothing wrong with a chain setup but if I was to drop more coin it would be for a belt drive.
