I have a stock distributor on my 318 and I bought a new set of advance springs to get all mechanical advance about 2500 rpm. I have the MP .528 cam if it matters. My initial timing with the stock springs is about 18 or 20.

My question is: should I use the vaccum advance with the new springs?

thanks

If your distributor is stock it probably has a ton of centrifugal timing advance. Make sure your total timing isn't too much (35-36 degrees max) or you'll toast things. As per Wild1 using the vacuum advance is no problem.

I have another question: I'm running only with the mechanical advance now, but I'm afraid that the total advance is too much. My car likes at least 15 of initial. I set the initial timing to 12 degrees but the car runs like crap. I need to know how much advance I get ONLY with the mechanical advance on. It's a stock 318 distributor with all mech. advance at 2500 rpm.
