need help with setting the base and total timing on my 360. What is the base suppose to be and then the total timing.

Usually a good number is around 34 degrees for total timing. Base or initial timing would depend on the ammount of mechanical advance built into the distributor. For instance before I modified the dist. for my 360 to get 34 degrees total I had to set the initial timing at 8 degreees cause the mechanical advance was 26 degrees. (26 mechanical +8 initial = 34 total).

I modified my dist. by welding up the slots some in the advance mechanism so I could run more initial timing. After modification my initial had to be set at 16-17 degrees to get 34 total.

If you don't know the ammount of mechanical advance just set your total to about 34 degrees and don't worry about the base number. Oh yeah, don't forget to unplug the vacuum advance when checking timing.
