Guys and Gals, I am finally putting new tires on the 68 dart and have it narrowed down to bf goodrich sport comp 2s or general g-max 205/50/17s in front. My question is in regards to load ratings. The G-maxes have a load rating of 93 xl which is 1433lbs @ 41 psi while the bfgs are rated an 89 sl which is 1279lbs @ 35 psi. I like the bfgs the best but they are also the 89 sl load rated tires. The current 14 inch coopers on the car now are 93 xl tires. It is a small block car if the added weight matters. Do you guys think the 89 sl bfgs will be a problem? According to the charts at this site:

it looks like up to 35 psi the 89 sl tire has a higher load capacity but I have very little knowledge in this area. What are every ones thoughts? Thanks for the help.

Naturally, the higher the load rating, the more weight a tire can support and handle more abuse, like braking, cornering, etc.. But even with the lowest rating, 4 of those tires (4 x 1279) will support more than the actual weight of your car and have a safety margin to boot.

I always try to get 4 trailer tires that will support a lot more than my car trailer weighs loaded and is rated for.

2 of the lower-rated tires still support ~2500 lbs, you have 4 of them and your car is probably 3200? I wouldn't worry about it.
