I am in the process of putting new tires on mine as well. I'm fairly sure that with the right backspacing you can fit 255s back there. Not much more without moving some stuff around back there. I'm putting 255/60r15s on the rear of mine, haven't put them on yet but they should fit, but be tight!

Welcome to the site btw!

I have 255/60/15 on mine. Make sure you get the backspcing correct. I also have the springs inboard a bit.

You guys that are running the 255/60/15's on the back, what are you running on the front (preferably without body modification)?

I haven't bought tires yet but I have 15x6 rims up front, I will be running either 205/60r15 or 215/60r15s. Will probably go with the 205s, gets a nice look to it.

I am looking at 15x6's for the front of my car and 15x7's for the rear, but I don't want to have to roll the fender lips or do any cutting, so tire size will be key. Thanks for the input.

Biggest I could fit was 245 60 15 and they came super close to the fender lip and the springs (wheels 15 x 7 4.25 bs) , so I put on 235 60 15 , did not want to roll the fender , body is so perfect did not want to mess with it .
Wish I could fit the big tires some of you have on your cars , could use the traction

On my 68 Dart, I am running 215/65R15 on 6" wide steel rims on the front. The rear I have 255/60R15 on 7" wide steel rims with 3.5" back spacing. They just barely fit. Probably have 1/4" or less gap between the inner fender lip and tire.
