To determine the year of a 340

Please and thanks, where do I look on my 340 to determine the year of the block?

Front of block, just below the deck surface. Should be a series of numbers stamped there.

D = 68
E = 69
F = 70
G = 71
H = 72
J = 73

Pass side, just above pan rail, below the drain plug, on the machined surface. this is for 69+ engines. Partial vin stamped there.

68 engines are stamped on the bellhousing flange, top side

Casting date can help you as well.
