I Have a 1969 Dodge Dart 340 4 speed car. I have just noticed that it has torque boxes on the rear framerails. I have owned this car for over 15 years and have never paid that much attention to them. My question, has anyone seen this before?? Is this normal for a 340 4 speed car?

My 70 Dart 340 has them. I was told they were on all the hipo a-body cars.

what the hell are torque boxes got some pics?

I don't have any pics handy but they are shaped sheet-metal pieces that weld to the underside of the car where the front leaf spring hanger attaches. They re-inforce this section because this is where all of the forward motion of the rear axle is transfered to the car. I think they might have used them in convertibles too. You can buy reproductions to add to your car. I think they run about $75 each.
