I have a small block 904 tranny and i had a slant six torque converter that is new. But when i went to put the transmission on there is an 1" gap between the block and bell housing. Is the slant six converter different or am I doing something wrong? Thanks

flexplate on the correct direction?

Converter seated all the way into the trans?

Is the converter a 67 and earlier? Won't work on a 68+ trans.

Yes the flexplate is on the right way. And the converter is on as far as i could push it. The slant six transmission was a 79, my small block one is a 72.

Did you turn it from side to side? Torque converters do not just slide in.You need to engage it fully.Turn clockwise, with a slight pressure on it.With a few minutes work, you will hear, and feel a "thunk". This is the converter dropping in.Go , counter-clockwise with slight pressure on the cinverter face again.Should hear, and feel a second"klunk".Go one more time, clockwise for a 3rd "klunk".This has worked for me on Mopars, and Chevys for years.Hopefully, this makes sense to you.
