Torsion Bar install

This should be an easy question for all you guys that have a lot of experience with A-bodies. When you install the torsion bars, how far do they go into the sockets? On my 69 Dart, if you install them until they bottom out in the LCA pivot, there is about an inch between the bar and the spring clip at the rear. If I install them to just past the groove for the spring clip, they don't really look like they are in the LCA very much. FSM is useless on this as it basically says install and then put in the spring clips. Which is correct, or is there a mid-point in there somewhere? TIA,

Here is a pic I took before I rebuilt the front-end in my duster. The front of the T-bar was seated just enough to cover the flat part of the flat hex end of the bar. And the other end was a little farther in than the clip notch.
