Transmission drag oil pan

Anyone know anything about this pan. I have never seen one like this.
This one fits a 904.

I don't know why they want so much capacity that thing would hold 5 gallons lol I understand the extra quart to bring the temp down but that seems a bit much lol

Maybe it's the same pan.

Or a replica of it. Believe it or not we took some measurements,
1. It does fit in front of the trans crossmember and
2 my header collectors would hit the ground before this pan.

It is very nicely made. I've just never seen anything like it,
Especially for a 904 trans. The magazine says it's designed as a rear sump just like a good engine oil pan and it also says it reduces
Wind age in the trans by getting the oil sump away from the spinning parts.

That may well have some merit, who knows? Evidently somebody thought they knew something. They may have.

I don't get the wind age part in the trans as it seems to me that the valve body would shield that, but what do I know lol.

It doesn't cover up everything. There's still a little exposed....but I'm like you, I'm not sure it really matters. The extra volume of fluid won't hurt a thing, though.

I don't think the idea is to add more oil, but to move the oil away from the spinning parts.

Well the areas that the valve body doesn't cover, I figure you gotta let the oil get back down to the pan. You can't block it all.

That would be a Furlong trans pan, the Idea was to get the fluid away from the moving parts. I have one also. LOL, Hanging on the wall.

I never used it, mine is for a 727 and I like the theory, It might just be worth a couple HP.

It looks like it is more like a baffled oil pan system. During hard acceleration the fluid would tend to pool at the back of the pan and could cause the filter to suck air in the front. This pan would keep the pick up fully submerged. Good idea, and every edge counts in competion. Think Smokey Yunick and the things he did...

I agree that appears to be the theory. On the other hand there are plenty of wheel standing race cars with standard deep sump pans that don't appear to have any problems.
