can you guys give me some tips about troubleshooting a truck that doesnt start? i am looking at one today, and i can bring it home if i can get it to start, so what do you guys think?


its a 1990 ford f-150 5L 5-speed. reg cab. long box

does it crank over when the key is turned?

just got back.. theres nothing when a booster isnt hooked up, but when a booster is hooked up, it makes a clicking noise when i try to turn it over.. i really need to get this running

i changed out the battery, because it has been sitting for years. and im guessing that battery wasnt good either, i guess ill have to bring out the trusty interstate

check battery cables for corrosion and clean as needed.could be a dirty/bad connection at the starter as well.

i crawled under the truck, the starter looks like a good connection, but the battery cables are corroded, how do i clean them?

they sell terminal cleaners at most parts stores.a wire brush or sand paper will also work,however avoid breathing the dust its not exactly health food lol.

baking soda mixed with water will do the same thing as the stuff you buy.

in a pinch wire brush them and pour some coke on em
