trunk torsion rods

-
Mine are worn out, they wont lift the trunk lid, or even hold it up once it's open.

I'm considering adding gas charged struts, or even replacing the rods with the struts.

One of my tortion bars just broke a while ago so when you open the trunk a little bit it goes "BANG!" before it opens all the way. I'm going to get rid of them and make some brackets to open with gas struts. I'll let everyone know how it goes in a DIY eventually. I've done the conversion on a few hoods on different cars. What I like to do is go to the junkyard and look for a late 80's or early 90s Civic Hatchback, or a CRX. The struts on those lift the entire rear door (not just the glass) and those doors are heavy. Once the struts are off it's hard as hell to lift the door back up on your own. But the struts are pretty capable of doing the trunk on a A-body I think.

Are those torsion rods adjustable? It looks like in my 65 valiant trunk there is a choice of three different holes used to lock the rods into the bracket.
