After lying on my back under the car trying to remove undercoating, resting my arms frequently because they felt like they were going to fall off, I made a discovery. I was using my hammer drill to 'jackhammer' it off and that was working quite well. But, very tiring. Then I got the idea to hammer it from above. It worked great and it was SO much easier not fighting gravity.

The trick is to run the hammer at low speed so it vibrates the floor at max and the stuff just flies off. I would say it took off 80%. My car's undercoating is caked on thick and brittle but it also took off the stuff that had taken on oil over the years.

One word of caution though, if you stay in one spot too long you'll put a hole through the floor so you have to be careful.
