I am wondering how an unsilenced air cleaner works? The silenced type have snorkels which will pull fresh air in, how do the unsilenced get air in? Through the breather tube? Just wondering if someone could give an explanation on how they work. Also from a performance point of view, would an unsilenced be a better performer over a silenced?

...............The unsilenced pulls air in from all around..........usually more power.........if ur jetting is on, as it may b 2 lean, u may have 2 jet up..........

The base diameter is smaller than the cover's diameter, which leaves an opening all around.

For a cheap (no cost) unsilenced air cleaner....

Remove lid

Remove filter

Take old fan belt and cut it

Lay old fan belt on top of filter

Cut old belt to same circumference as filter

Tape both ends of old belt together

Lay old belt in bottom of air cleaner

Lay filter on top of old belt

Reattach lid

You now have an air cleaner that will almost sound like you left the
lid off for that 4 bbl. moan but all the air will be filtered and only a keen eye will see the lid is 1/4 inch higher than the housing itself.

My old man never found out. I actually glued the belt to the bottom of the lid.
