USB port in console

Here's a rainy day project. Cut out the bottom of a rusty console ashtray, removed one brace and bent the other to fit a USB port. Also added an audio jack. Used a piece of 1/8" plastic from a broken dash bezel for the face plate, glued it together. Easy to access, out of sight when not in use.

That's a great idea, and I'm the Rodney Dangerfield of ideas. I'm happy to borrow a good one when I see it. I think I will do the same on the Dart. Nice job sir!
 
Thanks! I've picked up lots of good ideas here so happy to share something in return. I suggest a 12V ignition supply, not constant 12V, to avoid wearing down battery when not driving it often.
 
Good suggestion. Now I have to find a junk ashtray, because mine is in really good shape. Or I could just make a template of some kind to take out the ashtray and save it, and put in a faceplate instead.
 
That's really nice.
Can you share any part numbers or sources for the components you used?
