I believe V21 is the 340 WEDGE decal without the black out hood treatment. V88 is hood paint deleted Also came with the silver non blacked out sharks tooth grille like this one.

Not 100% sure seem v21 is black out hood treatment only,v24 same thing with 340 call out as per dealer ordering book & v88 would be rear stripe delete. Picture out off dealer book. Look at price $3. Dollar difference

Would V21 be the ladder hood black out that was used on Duster Twisters? It would be curious and I do not think I have ever seen one on a 340 car. I do believe you could buy the 340 wedge hood decal from the dealer back in the day but that would not show on the fender tag.

Looks like it could be the Latter decal. The grille is also a silver grille. I see where V88 is tail stripe delete. This site is a great place to learn. I never saw a V21 on a Data plate. Could it be used on a Twister?

That why I m inquiring ,planning resto in fall would like to make as correct as possible any 340 out there with code V21 on data plate

Yes , see that but V21 shows NA on duster 340 but on my book ( canadian ) show v21 available on duster & duster 340

The V21 code --- means -- that the flat black hood --- WITHOUT - 340 callout decal - was available for both the VL29 VIN coded (either a /6 or 318 V8 equipped Duster) and VS29 VIN reserved for 340 Duster models.

The VL29 VIN was the basis for the 1971 Duster Twister model which was not available with and did not have the 340 engine.

Only the VS29 VIN Duster included the 340 engine.

The V24 code was reserved only for 340 Dusters (VS29 VIN) and therefore the 340 callout decal was included with the V24 code.

To summarize --- a customer could factory order a 1971 Duster Twister and a Duster 340 with a flat black hood treat using the V21 code for optional equipment from the factory.

The V24 code was applied only to 340 Dusters that included the flat black hood treatment and the 340 callout decal.

So a customer could factory order a 1971 Duster 340 WITH (code V24) or WITHOUT (code V21) the 340 callout hood decal.

I had a 72 340 with v21. I have never seen a v21 71? That would be really rare?

That looks my car came with black hood only no wedged decal. Was added along the line, dealer or customer . Will do black out treatment only thanks for the info
