Hey. My motor came with these holley valve covers. Do I have to carefully cut out the oil cap and breather holes, or will they just pop out with a hammer and socket thats about the same size?

Try using a smaller socket or punch first. That notch inside is for a twist in style breather or cap.

thanks bob, I have a twist style cap, so I will pop that one out. Should I hit it from the top side or the bottom or it doesnt matter?

Hit the top, less damage to the nice side!!! The other plug should pop out also for a grommet style. If after 2-3 hits nothing happens, usually you'll see some movement, you might have to drill them out??? My MP alum covers had the same type of plugs, they came out reasonably easy...

I'd drill an 1/8 inch hole in the center followed by a slightly smaller than needed hole saw and finish with a rat tailed file, or a dremel tool.

I would just support the outlying areas and knock that sucker out!! Can't be much worse than a conduit knockout.

Yeah it's really depends on what is going to go into the hole to get the exact diameter that it really needs to be. Much better to take out a little at a time than to much.

yea i just smashed it out with a socket and then cleaned it up with a dremel and a file...thanks...

..one step closer to firing/driving my first 340!
