The good ones are crazy expensive everywhere, even used large single flutes bring a premium at our flea markets here. I don’t know if it’s changed or not, but back in the late nineties they were machine made just to make a basic shape and “then a whole room full of some very mellow cats“ (as it was described to me) took diegrinders with dimlet industrial diamond bits and jeweler lenses and made the cutting patterns by hand. The sales rep told me that the machine finished ones don’t work nearly as well because of the asymmetrical patterns and minor imperfections in the hand made ones cut twins fast. He said it took a whole shift for each Tool and die maker to make a set of 5.
