valve stems uneven

i dont know exactly how to explain it but the top of my valve stems are all uneven. so if my rocker shaft was installed w/no rockers and i look for straightness at top of my valves above the springs and locks my stems are up and down uneven. does this make any sence i could take a picture.
my problem is i need to make measurements for pushrods and dont know witch valve to go off of being they dont all look to be the same height. it seems i have to put the adjustables back on just for that reason.
 
Most times this happens after a vavle job and when the seats are cut the vavle sinks in the head. This will casue the stem to be taller when looking at it from the rocker side. Several things can be done. You can shim the valve springs to get the correct installed spring height and trim the stem to make sure they are all even for the rockers.
 
How long has it been since the heads had a valve job done? I know that I had a set of heads that was the same way. I took them to BJR racing and found out the heads was junk. The valves were not seating correctly.
 
I think they're supposed to be like that if they're stock valves and heads. Mine on my 318 are like that, and all the pictures in my FSM show the intakes higher/longer than the exhausts (or the other way around, I'm not sure).
 
heads have been ported, with not to many miles on them. is this an acual problem or can the adjustables work it out.
 
adj. rockers will work it out. if you dont want adjustables you can get a cut to fit pushrod set and a adj.checking pushrod and cut a set to fit each valve. Time consuming. if theyre not way off you can cut them all to the longest pushrod length and the plungers will adjust to the pushrod. the plungers will be downhole in the lifter but thats why you use hydraulics.adjustable rockers are only nessasary when the pushrods are too short and you have to take up the slack.
 

just make sure you dont have one sticking up way past the others as this could be a sign of a sunken seat and could be a problem. you said you had them ported but im not sure if you also had a valve job done. on a cheby or such its not really noticed that often by most because you set each valve lash individualy but on most stock mopars it comes up often cuz of the rocker shaft setup. that adjustable setup you have should get you back up and going.

That's what was up with my heads "sunken seats". You could shave with one of the valves.

Take the valve out that is sticking up the highest. Use a straight edge to find it. Then look at the margin on your valve. If you it really sharp then you've got problems. But it has a good margin then your valves are sealing properly.
