I have come across many big blocks and some have the hole vin number on them from what ever car they came out of but also some have half the number on them and some have no number on them.i was told the ones with no number were warrenty blocks and the blocks with all or half the vin on them depended what car plant thay came out of.does any one know for sure,just would like to know.

They didn't put VIN's on them at all before 1968, then in 1968 it was on the top rear of the block near the oil galley, by where the bell housing bolts on. Starting in '69 they started putting it on the side just above the oil pan rail. I can't answer the whole vs partial VIN question, I'm not sure. I've never seen one with the whole VIN that I can remember.
