Well I made it to my hometown today safe and sound. It took about five hours to get here from Chicago despite the traffic jam two miles into Indiana. I filled up with fuel in Paw Paw, Michigan for $1.99/gallon. My car was getting around 32-34 MPG on the highway anyway, so I was barely burning any fuel . Of course the exit I always take was closed due to construction :banghead: so I had to take a little detour this time. I finally got to my grandparent's house and unpacked my stuff.

After that I went to my best friend's house who actually lives across the street and hung out there for a bit. After that I went to go visit my good friend/old neighbor's house where of course he was working on his mini bikes...I came to his house at the right time! :D His niece and her friend were just about to ride the mini bikes around the neighborhood. When they left to do that, I started talking to my friend and then he remember that he didn't put enough gas into one of the bikes and called his niece to tell her. Well...they were about one mile away from the house and his niece’s friend fell off one of the bikes, but luckily she just had a few scrapes. They had some neighbors helping them out, so I tagged along with my friend to help him out with the rescue.

So I him I hopped in his car (which was a 2000 Audi A4 1.8T 5 spd) and rushed over to their location A.S.A.P. We got to their location in less than five minutes (they told us the wrong cross streets which made it take a little longer to get there). The neighbors who were helping them out bandaged the one girl's scrapes and the one bike took a fall. The recoil start cover was smashed in so when we tried to restart it, it was making grinding noises. The handlebars were bent as well. So we had one running mini bike and one messed up mini bike which wouldn’t start because of the smashed in recoil start. We tried to fit the messed up mini bike in the back of my friend's car, but the handle bars were too far out and it wouldn't fit properly in the car. So we came up with a bright idea...

My friend got a rope out of the back of his car and tied it up to the messed up mini bike with him on it, while his niece would follow us on the other running mini bike. My friend let me drive his car with me towing him on the messed up bike, so I had to keep a speed of about less than 20 mph. I just put it in first gear and cruised at 10 mph to be safe since there were quite a few stop signs in the neighborhood (I could hear that turbo in the car spooling up too ;)). So we got back to his house and got the bikes back in his workshop and fixed the damaged one by hammering out the dents in the recoil starter. My friend had a talk with his niece about going so far away from the house and how it's dangerous (I mean it is Detroit after all). So he started the mini bike that was in the accident and it ran great (but still had messed up handlebars). I hopped on his red mini bike which had a really cool lever throttle instead of a throttle grip which actually makes it faster. We cruised up and down the street and then he put the bikes away for the night.

So yeah it was a very action packed first day today back in Detroit for me. I can't wait to do more fun stuff while I'm here in Detroit. I hope this vacation does not fly by too quick!

Here are the two bikes: the purple one was the one that got damaged in the small accident today. Luckily that girl who fell off only ended up with a few scrapes.

Glad you had fun.

Say Hi to Derak for me...

I had a feeling that our short cut was going to be closed for construction...
