I know its not an A-body but it may apply some day. I have a 94 Dodge van with a 318 and I noticed a lot of water in the crankcase when I checked the oil. I suspected a bad head gasket so I tore into it and popped the heads. The gaskets were good, no sign of any leakage at 140k miles. I then pulled the water pump off after talking with my local Dodge dealer mechanic and found a badly deteriorated water pump and a teeny tiny piss hole in the timing cover behind the water pump. Since is was under pressure it was constantly filling up the crankcase with water. Anyhow, I found another good timing cover at the local boneyard for 30 bucks, slapped it on, relapped the valves and put er together with new gaskets. It now runs great but I had to work on it for 3 days. I will change the oil and filter again tomorrow as I have run it now for about 2 hours.

The Magnums also have a propensity of leaking on the intake crossover from time to time.
I have a '94 5.9 that had the water in oil symptom, too.

Mark.
