Stripped my exhaust stud the other day! Doh!

Thankfully got it out the head, along with a face full of coolant

5/16x18 unc I believe is What's needed.

Should I run sealant around the thread before I put the new stud back into the head? If so what?

I have some of this on the shelf (see pic)

Only other thing I have is PTFE tape, so open for recommendations if those won't suit

That is probably what I would use.

Make sure the stud you get is 5/16-18 (coarse thread) on one end for the cylinder head, and 5/16-24 (fine thread) on the other- the factory used fine thread nuts on the exhaust studs.
Could this be why you stripped the threads- tried to use a coarse thread nut on the original stud?

Yup was gonna order these(pic)

Does anyone know the minimum length needed for both ends?

Closest I could find. Should work though

Seriously? Yer askim' us old coots if 45mm is the right length? I think it's an inch and a half or inch and three quarters... measure the old one. (Edit- Oh, I see you're in the UK... you're forgiven!)
Any good hardware store (not a "home center") should have them at about a buck, buck and a half (1.10 GBP) each. Or NAPA, O'Reiley, Advance Auto, etc. (or your local equivalent).

1 1/2" is close to factory size as stated make sure to chase the head threads and that no more anti freeze is leaking there for best chance of the RTV to do its job Good luck!
