Water pump on 1974 slant

Question- in order to change the water pump on my slant with a/c, do I have to remove the a/c compressor and connecting bracket? It looks like that's the case-thanks

You have to unbolt the compressor brackets and lift the compressor out of the way, since the compressor's lower bracket is held in place by the upper water pump bolts. But you don't have to discharge the A/C system or anything like that.
