ok im trying to figure whats wrong with my duster i was driving home and all of a sudden i let of the throttle and it makes a sound from the rear end like a rubbing sound but only when im off the gas but when i accelerate nothing no noise

cavemanmoron look's like you covered most of it,
would a pinion shaft do this? not sure gust puttin my 10 cent's wourth in.
Hope you find out the weird noise jeffduster. :coffee2:

If it's only doing it when you let off the gas it's the pinion bearing.

I have had a gear do it. And yes it only did it when slowing out of the throttle. The bearing was also bad. The bearing may have caused the gear to go bad but still all was done for.

Sounds like an expensive noise, ca-ching, suggest going into the rear end and have a look. If it's a 7 1/4 pull the inspection cover off the back of the rear and with both tires off the ground and the drive shaft held tight check the crown to pinion backlash, looking for .006"-.010".
