So on the big westward Vacation in June, the exhaust manifold on the Cummins cracked and also broke the rear-most bolt off in the head. Bought a BD 2 piece manifold and stud kit. Took it all apart this afternoon. My greatest fear was not being able to get the broken bolt extracted.
So I've seen it done and decides to try it. Taped a 3/8 nut to the barrel of the old Flux core welder, held it against the stud/hole and pulled the trigger. Nut was glowing bright red. Thought this is great. Put a socket on it and the nut unscrewed right of the slag pile. Left a nice thread pattern. LOL. Cut a slot in the end of it and backed that baby right on out with a screwdriver. WIN !!!
Reassembly begins tomorrow evening.

The heat from the welding got the bolt nice and loose.

It doesn’t matter how you win, it only matters that you win.

Yep. They all came out relatively easy. Of course I put the heat wrench on each one before hitting them with the impact gun.
