welders question

I have a carbon arc rod holder for brazing. Used to buy the Lincoln rods in 1/4 dia but used them more for heating up nuts and bolts. Will 1/4 gouging rods work? Im just using a little 110 volt arc welder so not very many amps,about 80 at the most.
