I went to the welding supply store to get some sheet metal and grinding disks and on the way home my alt gauge takes a dump, lights go dim, dash goes dark, and I have to power brake it to keep the thing running at intersections. After swapping 2 alts and one voltage regulator and the battery (all extras sitting in the garage) nothing changed. Then I saw a flash out of the corner of my eye.

So tomorrow Im doing the mad electrical bypass.

And I bet you are the man for the job, Glad to spotted it.
was it shorting out or over heating because of a bad conection?

After years the connectors start to get corroded with that green/white powder. I usually check, clean and grease the bulkhead and all the other connectors but that one I just over looked so it heated up then went poof. It just barley got the wire next to it so it wont be that big of a deal to fix.
