Wet Sanding with Dura-block or paint stick?

This pertains to final sanding 2k after blocking. However you get here is debate-able and everyone has their own process. I have always final sanded 2k primer surfacer using 500-600 grit wet sheets wrapped around a paint stick. I use a bucket of water, spray bottle, dawn method. It can be rough on the hands and fingers. I do have dura-blocks PSA type and I guess I can wrap the paper around them.

Whats your last sanding step preference?

Are there any PSA wet sand paper that will hold on the block ?

I was wondering if I can use 3m or like PSA or will it just come off.

I don't do that kind of work but I sell some Durablock products and the guys use them for finish sanding with good results.

I used a foam pad on my finishing da and it worked great.

I like paint sticks for this. The best block for really getting something flat is one made from Corian.

Corian doesn't lie. If you have a high or low, it will find it.

I use the dura-block with 3m sandpaper works great for me and the paper sticks good as long as you dry the block when changing paper .

I never understood why guys use paint sticks as I`ve never seen a very straight one and they are too narrow. Either a sanding block for flat areas or wooden dowels of variuos diameters for curved panels and softer foam pads for compound curves.

Ive used paint sticks, I tape them together side by side, then they are the same width as board sand paper, they are not to stiff & its cheaper than buying a sanding block

I use EVA on the long board cut to get it nice and straight. 2nd prime, I hit with P600 on an EVA hand , use half sheets, fold and torn down the seam, until the guide coat is gone. Then, I come back in with guide coat and hit the entire car with the same P600 on a flexable foam block, both to knock out any ridges that the more rigid foam can leave and get concave areas without leaving any gouges.

A second overall pass leaves a flatter surface than just sanding until the guide coat is gone, on the first round and with the flexible block, it is less likely to leave any ridges.

I used Durablock with mine. I used the adhesive backed paper to 320 grit. Then wet sanded at 400 then 600. Then 3 stage paint base,pearl, clear. No problem using the Durablock with non adhesive backed sandpaper as long as you have enough to wrap around the block so you can grip it to the block.
