Can't you take the dizzy out and weld up the advance slot then file it accordingly to limit travel?

Sure. If you are lucky enough to have a welder and know how to use it. Not everyone is as blessed as you and I.
 
So it looks like I'm going to order some new springs and recurve my distributor? Any other ideas for the rest of the week?
